Day 1901: Lamb

I ordered one of those weekender brunch kits from Goldbelly for the long weekend/as a early birthday treat for Matt from a smokery in Washington state. It was bake your own bagels and sliders with lox, smoked salmon cream cheese, Dungeness crab and a red king crab spread. We were excited because we don’t get Dungeness or red king crab here.

It arrived this morning and the bagels/rolls seem fine but they substituted every seafood item in the kit for something similar but not quite right. We got crab dip instead of crab meat, salmon mousse instead of salmon cream cheese and smoked salmon instead of lox.

About half of the items were not even the same brand we ordered from. Even the butter wasn’t from the creamery listed. Goldbelly is giving us a credit and said they contacted them to see what happened. The other option was getting it sent again but I don’t feel confident that they will actually send the right stuff and I don’t want to deal with that. Nothing but the baked goods was correct.

We can still eat it (I’m assuming, it’s still frozen) but I had to go buy cream cheese for the bagels and I don’t know if the dip would work on a sandwich.

For lunch we had salmon and coconut rice from the meal prep place and leftover cucumber salad. It wasn’t bad! I find the meals they sell without a vegetable a little strange, the portions are generally smaller too. Which is okay for lunch but makes for a skimpy dinner! If I wanted to cook a side, I’d probably just make the whole meal myself. They don’t sell a ton of sides so I don’t think it’s a way to make people to spread more or anything like that.

Since the SeaBear Goldbelly box was supposed to be basically all of our meals this weekend and now I’m not sure if that’s going to work, we ended up getting Greek food and saving the food I planned to make tonight for Sunday when nothing is open. I can’t go to a third grocery store this week.

Day 1899: Pot Roast

I tried some frozen kati rolls for lunch and they were not great! One was really gristly.

It was my last button class today! It was a bit of a mess as usual, I had to overnight a marble of all things. I feel like I learned a bunch but everything about that class was such a mess.

For dinner we had pot roast, mash and green beans from the meal prep place.

Day 1896: Pizza

For lunch I had the leftover knockwurst. Matt mowed the lawn at the other house and picked up a sandwich.

My guild meeting/yearly auction was today but I had a migraine so I skipped it.

For dinner we got the pizza we talked about last week. We tried a new one with pesto, pepperoni and hot honey and I was skeptical but it was good!

We had a salad too but they forgot the dressing and parm so we had to make our own.

Day 1895: Crabs & Cupcakes

Since we bought plants last weekend we skipped the plant sale we were going to go to and got steamed crabs and cupcakes instead. Both places are near each other but not near us so it makes sense to pair them up! Even if it isn’t a birthday.

They had a special Preakness Black-eyed Susan cupcake with pineapple curd that was really good.

The crabs were good!

They had soft crabs so I cleaned and made them for dinner. On the said we had coleslaw Matt made, shrimp & mac salad and potato salad from the seafood store.

Day 1894: Beef & Mash

The place that sells the club sandwiches and pasta dinner specials is under new ownership so we tried their club for lunch. It was good! They were out of chips (which comes with it) so they gave us fries instead which was nice.

For dinner we were going to get pizza but there was an awful storm that apparently included a tornado in the shopping center where I bought bagels this week. No people injuries but a very odd event for Baltimore City! is We were fine and pivoted to what was going to be tomorrow’s dinner of José Andrés new beef in sherry sauce from Costco. It was solid! We had it with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts.

I’ve been looking for something like that for a quick meal. So often the prepared meats are for meals that will require ingredients to go with them that we we don’t always have on hand like tacos or gyros so I’ve wanted a meat that could go with pretty much any vegetable and something we always have like potatoes or noodles. There was a lot of gravy so we did cook the whole 2 lb box and have leftovers.

The plumber came today and then at bedtime we noticed the faucet is no longer flush with the wall so I guess we will have to have them come back! Matt was working when they were here and I guess didn’t notice. I was at the other house with the dogs.

Day 1892: Leftovers

Lulu was dropped off at the vet this morning for tests about her cough. They have you drop them off before they open and then pick them up in the evening and wait around for the vet to talk to you which is a little odd but I guess works. It was awkward because she couldn’t eat or drink this morning in case they needed to sedate her for an x-ray so we tried to let the dogs sleep until she had to go and I fed the other two later. They howled and howled when she left.

I had paperwork and printer drama around lunch so I ended up having soup and pretzels/cheese and Matt picked himself up something.

For dinner I made baked potatoes and we had with leftover beef, leftover chicken and salad.

A potato exploded in the oven! I’ve never had that happen before. I almost thought it was a myth.
