Day 1883: Take out

I went to Costco and got some odds and ends. It will be a busy couple days so I wanted to get a chicken for lunches. I ran into my neighbor which was funny because we don’t live near Costco. They had new(?) southwest wraps so we had that for lunch.

I saw a barge on the river which was fun and rare.

For dinner I was hoping to get something to heat up from Costco but they didn’t have anything that worked so we got Chinese food near home instead.

Day 1882: Gumbo

There was a lunch counter/diner near where I lived when I was little. I don’t think we ever went there because we didn’t really eat out but it was famous for their Coney Island dogs. Then years later it moved bizarrely near my parents new house on the river. We tried that for lunch. I was skeptical it would transport well but they wrapped the dogs up nicely and nothing was greasy at all.

Blurry photo for proof:

For dinner we had another of the Goldbelly meals—gumbo. It was really good! The third meal is in the freezer for later but I’d totally order from them again.

Day 1881: Soft Pretzel

For lunch we split a sandwich from the Amish market and got soft pretzels.

Matt had to mow the lawn so that took forever. I finished my book.

For dinner we had garlic bread and a pasta dish from the Goldbelly delivery. It was really good—shrimp, andouille, and crawfish.

Big thunder at night but not too much rain. I think we got lucky because I saw other places got violent hail.

Day 1880: Eggplant Parm

Goldbelly had a big seafood sale and we ordered a box with three Cajun meals for 40% off to be delivered today. When I woke up it said there was a mechanical failure in KY and it would be delayed but somehow it was still here at 10 am! Magic! I was expecting to have to open a box of rotten seafood on Monday. None of it was defrosted so I put two in the fridge for this weekend and froze the third.

For lunch we had shrimp salad from the meal prep place and leftover pesto pasta.

I spent most of the day in the yard reading my book and listening to birds. Mitzi stayed by my side all day but all three girls came out to play.

For dinner we tried a new-to-us Italian place and it was good. The antipasto was tasty and the eggplant parm was solid.

Day 1878: Scallops

For lunch we had Italian sandwiches because we needed things at the Italian store.

They forgot the olive spread on mine! It was still good but my mouth was set for that olive spread. Sometimes we have some here because they sell it in a tub but not today. It really completes the sandwich.

For dinner I made scallops with some pasta and this frozen pesto I had brought at Lidl ages ago. It wasn’t bad! I’m trying to actually use things from the freezer. Lots of pasta left.

Matt had a dentist appointment (they masked!) and later picked up some prepared meals for tomorrow. He got one with salmon and sesame noodles and I remember not liking one of the noodles but I don’t remember it having sesame. If it’s gross, we could have leftover pasta. He meant to grab a salmon and rice dish but somehow didn’t? The place is set up a little odd with similar things stacked near each other and it’s easy to grab the wrong one when you are focused on the dates. The dishes get covered up by the labels.

I finished the Sophie hood I started ages ago! I have a lot of yarn left, I’m not sure why I ordered so much.

Day 1874: Chana Masala

It was awful weather so we stayed home which was super disappointing. I really was looking forward to it. It was the perfect set up of yarn festival and then going to the weird museum that is only open 2-5. Plus the Filipino bakery.

We ended up getting a burger for lunch (and Matt had fries) and then Indian food for dinner because I didn’t plan any meals since we were supposed to be out all day. At least we have leftovers?

Day 1872: Chicken Parm

For lunch I had some soup and we spilt the leftover shrimp salad.

Decided to make dinner tomorrow since Matt had to work late so had some take out from the fancier Italian place. Our usual place has been taken over by other owners and we haven’t gotten up the nerve to try it yet.

I have so much leftover! I have to remember to eat it.

Day 1866: Soft Crabs

It’s Good Friday so Matt suggested we get fish for lunch since he was off and I thought places would probably have seafood specials. Growing up we’d sometimes get a filet-o-fish from McDonald’s on Good Friday because they’d always be good and fresh.

A new to us place had soft crab sandwiches (my favorite!) as a special and we got them and rockfish bites. So good! We will have to try something else there, the place was busy for a Friday afternoon.

For dinner we had pork with mushrooms and mashed potatoes from the meal prep place and made a tomato salad.

Day 1863: Pot Pie

I had to hang out at the other house while they checked the air conditioning and cleaned the unit. I had soup. It took a lot longer than expected; we don’t have air conditioning at home!

Matt had taken a lunch but went on a walk with a coworker and picked me up a brownie. It was good! I almost felt like there was jam on it but it didn’t have seeds. There was a fruitiness to it though.

I picked up a pot pie from the farm stand on the way home and Matt had some Chinese food.
