Day 1629: Catfish

Started the day off with some shrimp salad and fries for lunch. Headed back home and got catfish, cabbage and mac and cheese for dinner—my favorite! It came with fruit punch which I don’t think I’ve had since elementary school.

We wanted to come back today so we can catch up on things tomorrow before the week started, I wish we had managed to do more fun stuff this week but it was relaxing at least.

Day 1628: Salmon

We tried to buy some furniture for the river house at an antique furniture warehouse thinking it would be the smaller size we were looking for and it was filled with the biggest colonial old furniture I’ve ever seen. So strange!

We ended up picking up lunch at a halal place people raved about online that’s about halfway between our house and the river. It was good! Looking forward to trying it again. I got a lamb platter but they also had like subs and things. The reviews were so good on Google I thought they were fake at first but I don’t think they were!

Matt ran out and got some groceries and made coho salmon, baked potatoes and corn for dinner.

Day 1627: Lomo Saltado

We had leftover crabcakes and salads for lunch.

Then we went to a park near the river house that I don’t remember loving before but it was pretty dingy. Lots of things were not open when the website said they would be and there were no lifeguards on duty. We were going to go to the beach we really like but traffic looked really bad so we didn’t.

We did spend some time outside on the new webbed lounge chairs I bought.

For dinner we did Peruvian food and it was good! Had the last of my birthday cake.

Day 1625: Spaghetti

We drove up to downtown Lancaster today there must have been bad traffic on the highway because we took a really winding rural route there.

We got turkey sandwiches at Central Market, some pretzel bread and nectarines to take home. It was so cool out! Very odd for August but pleasant to walk around in. Lancaster is kind of hilly and when we have been there in the summer before it’s been a little rough!

We did some shopping and bought some art at a gallery, a plant, a vintage pot and some earrings from a high school art class that had a booth this vintage/arts store.

hen on our way back we saw a sign for the Herr’s factory and did a detour for some chips at their factory store. They had Stromboli flavored!

We came home and had leftover spaghetti.

Day 1624: My Birthday!

Got my traditional candy for my birthday!

For lunch we got sushi and then dinner we made crab cakes and had salads (cucumber, potato, macaroni) from the good grocery store and deviled eggs. We had the red velvet cake from Milk Bar and it defrosted really well!

It was rainy but cleared up a little for some home hammock time.

Matt got me some fun presents but Nordstrom sold him a used purse! He returned it on the way to sushi and we ordered a replacement. It smelled like perfume and had some pen marks but was bundled up like it was brand new. He had checked to make sure it was the right bag but it didn’t really smell until I opened it up. So weird.

It is chilly and damp tonight! I don’t think I’ve had been able to say that on my birthday before!

Day 1623: Spaghetti

The goal was to go to a museum today for this outdoor event but it was raining so we played a game instead.

We tried a new to us place and got sandwiches for lunch.

For dinner we had frozen sauce, meatballs and garlic bread from the Italian market so we defrosted it overnight and heated it up for dinner.

The sun did peek out a little:

Day 1622: Lobster Rolls (again)

For lunch we made waffles then went to a macrame class across town that I got tickets for six weeks ago.

We got there early, waited and then it turned out the woman teaching the class only had set up for six people and there were 10 with tickets. She added two more spots but that was not enough.

She said there were some no shows in her last class and I think she assumed the same would happen again and didn’t come prepared at all.

She said she didn’t want to do a demo for us that we could all see but would do knots on students work instead which made zero sense. I think she just didn’t have enough supplies to do the demo because she was super unprepared and unprofessional.

She didn’t know which piece we were going to make, kept claiming that the place gave out more tickets than they said they would but kept changing the number of tickets she claimed they gave out and refused to look at the class list to make sure everyone who was there was on it. She also said that since the library closed at 5, we had to leave at 4:30?

She was clearly lying about why she was unprepared and scrambling. It didn’t seem like she wanted to be there at all and was surprised people showed up.

This is the same woman who I was going to take a multi week class from a few months ago at Monkton Manor that got canceled and then rescheduled weeks later. I assumed it was because the intial time was a little awkward but now I think she is just a flake.

I don’t know how (as she introduced herself to us) she won “Baltimore’s best fiber artist” in 2023 as she isn’t from Baltimore but Ellicott City and can’t get it together to teach 10 adults some knots on a Saturday afternoon.

Who does not come prepared with enough supplies (and extra even!) to teach a class and then tells people with tickets there is no room? The supplies are literally rope and a pole. How hard is it to confirm the numbers with the venue before leaving your house to make sure you have everything?

Tarah Boyd, apparently.

At least we had lobster rolls and great corn for dinner?! And some Milk Bar s’mores truffles.

Day 1621: Lobster Rolls

For lunch I just had some soup while I waited for my cake delivery. I popped it in the freezer when it arrived, it was hard to tell if it was still frozen without unwrapping it but my birthday isn’t until Monday. It’s from Milk Bar and the cookies and truffles I ordered were totally frozen still so I’m thinking the cake would be? Their email today about the same cake being retired soon said they can be frozen up to a month and the website FAQ says two weeks so I’m assuming they are expecting at the very least you can freeze it when it arrives. It was a great deal, there was a bundle discount and then a good “secret” sale going on.

We ordered a half price lobster roll kit from Goldbelly so we made that for tonight. We had some Guinness chili chips I found at the store and a tomato-arugula salad with them. I had bought corn but Matt had issues browning the rolls and we forgot to put it up. Luckily we had some leftover tomatoes and arugula so he made a quick vinaigrette.

It’s the first night of our “vacation” but we didn’t really make plans because our dads were sick and then died and then everything was booked so we are hopefully doing some day trips if the weather is nice! The worse part of these Covid times is everything is so weather dependent. Can’t eat outside if it’s raining and we eventually do need to eat if we are away from home for too long.
