Lulu didn’t feel well so I dashed out to the store and got some chicken for her and some odds and ends to eke out a few days’ worth dinners.
For lunch we made sandwiches with the smoked turkey from the Goldbelly box and finished up the dregs of the guacamole Doritos and nacho pretzel sticks—both surprisingly tasty. The turkey was fine.
For dinner we had leftover crab cakes (last ones!) with the leftover cauliflower and potatoes from another meal.
The barbecue arrived a day late and some of it was cold but defrosted. Disappointing because we got a good deal on a package that was just meat (and one stew) and the idea was to keep most of it frozen for meals for the other house. I really hate having to haul tons of groceries there so the idea was to have some fun meat on hand this summer and to get produce from the farm stands and farm store that is right near the house and not have to haul so much back and forth.
Anyway, the Brunswick stew defrosted and it was pretty gross. No lima beans and barely any corn or potatoes. Bland. Hopefully everything else is better? We made corn muffins to go with. I barely ate any and had some leftover paella as a snack.
For dinner we heated up some leftover crab cakes and roasted cauliflower and baby potatoes.
The weather was awful today! I also had a migraine so it was rough.
Nice weather for Memorial Day! I sat outside a bit and we played a lawn game.
For lunch we had chicken sandwiches and chips. I’m tired of lunch!
For dinner we made broccoli cheddar twice baked potatoes and pork loin.
I had put some étouffée from the last Goldbelly order to defrost overnight for today to be festive but it was still a little slushy so we can have it tomorrow.
The place that sells the club sandwiches and pasta dinner specials is under new ownership so we tried their club for lunch. It was good! They were out of chips (which comes with it) so they gave us fries instead which was nice.
For dinner we were going to get pizza but there was an awful storm that apparently included a tornado in the shopping center where I bought bagels this week. No people injuries but a very odd event for Baltimore City! is We were fine and pivoted to what was going to be tomorrow’s dinner of José Andrés new beef in sherry sauce from Costco. It was solid! We had it with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts.
I’ve been looking for something like that for a quick meal. So often the prepared meats are for meals that will require ingredients to go with them that we we don’t always have on hand like tacos or gyros so I’ve wanted a meat that could go with pretty much any vegetable and something we always have like potatoes or noodles. There was a lot of gravy so we did cook the whole 2 lb box and have leftovers.
The plumber came today and then at bedtime we noticed the faucet is no longer flush with the wall so I guess we will have to have them come back! Matt was working when they were here and I guess didn’t notice. I was at the other house with the dogs.
Lulu was dropped off at the vet this morning for tests about her cough. They have you drop them off before they open and then pick them up in the evening and wait around for the vet to talk to you which is a little odd but I guess works. It was awkward because she couldn’t eat or drink this morning in case they needed to sedate her for an x-ray so we tried to let the dogs sleep until she had to go and I fed the other two later. They howled and howled when she left.
I had paperwork and printer drama around lunch so I ended up having soup and pretzels/cheese and Matt picked himself up something.
For dinner I made baked potatoes and we had with leftover beef, leftover chicken and salad.
A potato exploded in the oven! I’ve never had that happen before. I almost thought it was a myth.
For lunch I had the last bagel and the last of the cream cheese. I also heated up leftover pilaf and baby potatoes as a snack, there was not much of either left but too much to toss.
For dinner we chopped up leftover beef and had it on rolls and made coleslaw and fruit salad to go with.
We were going to go to Annapolis for the plant sale but it was freakishly cold and windy this morning so we went to this native plant nursery instead. It moved to a golf course since we last went and it was a big hike. A good walk spoiled, indeed. We got a lot of plants for both houses.
We needed something at the Italian market so we got that and some sandwiches for lunch.
Matt did a little grocery run and we had salmon, corn muffins and salad for dinner.
Fruit salad for dessert! It’s been a long time since we’ve had berries.
