Day 1852: Hot Dogs

Kind of a salty day! I realized I didn’t have anything leftover for lunch so I ended up having soup and some chips and salsa then we had a late-ish dinner of hot dogs, chips and broccolini (for health) because it was quick and easy.

Matt went into work super early and put the dogs back to bed as he normally does but somehow we still ended up getting up early. I felt like I lived a whole day before 10 am. I finished my buttons from this week’s class and finished watching Long Bright River.

I looked over my button list again and found 2 more buttons I sent in January she didn’t record so that’s two less I have to do. If she sticks to the schedule she actually put out, I won’t have too too many to do on my own.

We have videos for some and one week I missed a class because they changed the time last minute so I have a video for that. That should be about 8-10 buttons and then I’m still waiting for the videos she said she’d do in March. Which is a lot to make but at least it won’t be me teaching myself from these arcane books.

Day 1851: Steak

I had my button class so I went to the other house and made lunch. I had the last of the ribs chopped up and sautéed it with leftover baked potatoes. I had some pineapple too.

Lots of button making today!

The class is a true wreck but I have learned some things. I had to make this one real quick because she told us at the last minute we had to have it for class to make something with it.

For dinner Matt made steak, broccolini and wild rice pilaf.

Day 1847: Sushi

Actually nice if cloudy weather today!

We went up to York and walked around the little Main Street. We got a new plant and Matt got some japchae at the Central Market.

We stopped at our favorite popcorn store on the way home so I had some of that and and some soup when we got back.

We were going to get sushi from one of the places downtown last week but Matt didn’t feel great so we got it today. It was all really good! They even had toro.

Day 1837: Pork

Long day! I went to Aldi before going to the other house to take my button class.

I had some 7-up in the fridge that had been opened back in January but was mostly full. I figured it must be flat so I went to pour it out and it exploded all over the kitchen. I have never seen so many bubbles or had so many sticky surfaces before. Luckily I had made good time and could clean it up before class.

We both had some leftover turkey in instant noodles for lunch at our respective locations.

I saw the first daffodil of the season!

Matt took Lulu to the vet for her hacking and now she is on two medicines. Oy. At least they are liquid.

I did my button class and somehow we didn’t finish any buttons. I’m behind since I missed a class when they changed the time. I’m a little exhausted by it. The whole class has been so disorganized and slapdash. I feel like I’m learning but it’s always some last minute thing I need or we don’t get to something and we have to figure it out on our own. The class needed to be a full year then.

Matt got some meals from the meal prep place for the next few dinners. Tonight we had pork with mashed potatoes and green beans and a $1 slice of cake. It really is cheaper than takeout and depending on what we get, pretty close to the price of making it ourselves.

I don’t really want to talk about the Covid-aversary but I do find it interesting now the press is talking about long Covid, how it’s still around and Covid cautious people etc now that Biden has left office. Even before this week, suddenly there was a return to an interest in the mechanics and reality. I guess when Biden pretended it was over he got a pass because he is the one that is supposedly on the side of science. Not that Trump is better, of course.

Day 1836: Kimchi Fried Rice

I had popcorn and tomato soup for lunch. Matt was at work and got poke! Lucky him.

For dinner we used up some things we had and made kimchi fried rice with spam.

I was supposed to be away at a workshop this week (it was canceled) and next week is a long weekend/staycation so we didn’t plan much for this week.

It’s good to use up some food! I’ve had to throw out some eggs lately which feels bad since the prices have gone up and places have shortages but we have been going back and forth between houses and not always cooking or baking much. Or cooking there and not using up what we have here. It’s a lot of keep straight especially if it something we don’t always have like kimchi and smoked salmon.

Day 1834: Leftovers

We had scrambled eggs and toast for lunch.

I had my guild meeting and we had a speaker but she was odd. She talked about her health and how many times she died(!) and all sorts of bizarre things. Then another member came up to me and was quizzing me about last year’s dues and auction. The auction I left because my dad’s doctor called asking about resuscitating him. I thought I had given her a twenty for a dues but she said I didn’t and kept claiming I won auction items. I wasn’t even there. It was weird and disturbing. She kept arguing with me. I did wonder if I hadn’t paid for the dues since I didn’t get a receipt but I was planning on just donating an extra $20 this year to be sure. Why she waited until March to quiz me about this is strange too.

Then there is more weirdness in my button class where it seems like they are expecting us to do even more buttons without instructions.

And the new March blanket knit a long pattern is ugly. I spent so much money on the yarn but the last month’s pattern was six identical squares which was also kind of ugly and weird for a 20 square blanket.

I’m tired of spending money on things that are supposed to be fun and then having them be stressful.

Then while I was gone Matt went to make the salmon for tomorrow and it was spoiled even though it was sell by the 20th. Oy.

For dinner we just had the leftover pasta. The wrong order wasn’t any better the second day.

It was an unexpectedly stressful day.

Day 1828: Hots & Tots

I had my retina appointment this morning. He thinks that is what is happening and wants me to come back in three weeks to check it again but it might take a few months(!). The light flashing is annoying but a little less today.

I was so dilated I felt woozy. We stopped at the rich people grocery and got sandwiches and split them. They weren’t bad! One was ham and Boursin and the other was turkey, ham and blue cheese.

We were supposed to get chips with them but Matt couldn’t find them and I couldn’t see.

Then we had hots, tots, beans and coleslaw for dinner.

Long day!

Day 1820: Swedish Meatballs

We picked up salads and rolls at the Amish market yesterday so we could have them for lunch today. I had their shredded chicken salad and we shared some pasta salad.

For dinner we had frozen meatballs, packet sauce and potatoes from IKEA and Matt made us sautéed green beans and mushrooms.

I don’t know if we’ve had them before but they were not bad. Huge portions though! I had picked them up to have at the other house since there isn’t a lot of carry out near by and it’s a pain to haul a ton of food there.
