Day 1767: Pad Thai

Today was super long. Matt did manage to make it off the street! He dropped off a package and picked up some sandwich ingredients.

My class was today! I had some instant Korean noodles first and really tried to power through so I didn’t have ton of work to do outside of class. I did five buttons. Next week we have a special speaker and then have more buttons to do on our own.

I was going to make dinner but things dragged on and Matt worked late so we ended up getting Thai food. Lots of appetizers. Their food is always good but pricy and a little skimpy. But good!

Day 1766: Pasta

We had meatloaf sandwiches for lunch.

For dinner Matt made this baked pasta with tomato sauce, ricotta, olive and artichoke hearts.

It was ugly because he stirred the ricotta in instead of doing dollops but it was pretty good!

There was a bird flu death. I can’t help but think about what might happen. Too bad Biden was worthless and now we have the madman taking office.

I did start knitting the Sophie Hood and it looks cute! My blanket yarn was supposed to arrive but was delayed by the snow.

Day 1764: Meatloaf

Went to the other house to check on things, water the plants and get some supplies in case we get snowed in.

We had leftovers for lunch then Matt did a Lidl run. Then we went to make the meatloaf and the meat was bad so he had to make a different Lidl run.

Powered through and made meatloaf, salad and roasted potatoes.

The meatloaf was a little skimpy but we have some leftovers.

Day 1761: Take Out

The weather looks like it might be bad tomorrow night and Monday so I did a Lidl shop after I tried to get yarn for a new project at the yarn store. They did not have enough yarn and totally ignored me so I left without buying anything. I also heard the owner berating a customer about not calling first? It was unpleasant.

Anyway, Lidl was pretty bare but I got some basics and frozen fish.

We had leftover homemade pizza for lunch when I got back.

In the evening Matt picked up Chinese food and some extra dishes for later. I wanted to cook but didn’t really get enough if we really do get snowed in.

Watched the penultimate Vera. We’ll be sad to see it go!

Day 1760: Pot Roast & Latkes

Happy New Year! We continued our food movie “marathon” and watched Tortilla Soup which was pretty bad! I remember when it came out but I had never seen it before. The scenes of the dad and that child his daughter babysat were so creepy! Why was he eating lunch with a random child at school? Meeting her at the school bus with food? All without telling her mother. Eek. We also watched Les saveurs du Palais which was based on a real woman’s story but oddly framed and lacking depth.

We got sushi for lunch (lucky fish only).

Then we made a big pot roast and latkes since it was the end of Hanukkah. Normally we do more themed food to match the movies but it’s been a year. The holidays were all so close this year, especially since we had fake Christmas too. It’s the first year we had to cook for all the days as well.

Day 1759: New Year’s Eve

We got club sandwiches for lunch. They were very well made today.

I went and picked up some holiday cupcakes from the bakery. The traffic was heavy! It really took up the whole morning.

Matt did a tiny shop to fill in what I couldn’t find for New Year’s.

We always have a movie night/marathon and this year our theme was food movies. We watched a Big Night which I had never seen and made pepperoni olive pizza and portobello mushrooms with rapini on the side.

Lemon meringue cupcake with sparkles for dessert.

Day 1758: Too Much Chicken

We had chicken sandwiches and Doritos for lunch. I continue to like the new Costco bread.

For dinner we had Costco butter chicken and Matt steamed some broccoli for health and made some saffron rice to go with it. It’s sushi rice because we realized too late we were out of basmati.

I shopped for New Year’s Day. I was hoping for more but the store was really empty except for chicken but I couldn’t bring myself to buy it.
