Day 1759: New Year’s Eve

We got club sandwiches for lunch. They were very well made today.

I went and picked up some holiday cupcakes from the bakery. The traffic was heavy! It really took up the whole morning.

Matt did a tiny shop to fill in what I couldn’t find for New Year’s.

We always have a movie night/marathon and this year our theme was food movies. We watched a Big Night which I had never seen and made pepperoni olive pizza and portobello mushrooms with rapini on the side.

Lemon meringue cupcake with sparkles for dessert.

Day 1758: Too Much Chicken

We had chicken sandwiches and Doritos for lunch. I continue to like the new Costco bread.

For dinner we had Costco butter chicken and Matt steamed some broccoli for health and made some saffron rice to go with it. It’s sushi rice because we realized too late we were out of basmati.

I shopped for New Year’s Day. I was hoping for more but the store was really empty except for chicken but I couldn’t bring myself to buy it.

Day 1757: Risotto

Got fries from the fancy fry place. They are supposed to be opening a location near us so I’m looking forward to that! It looks like cheese in the photo but it’s really pineapple and pulled pork.

We were going to go to the conservatory but Lulu was up sick all night so we didn’t want to leave here alone.

Matt needed something at Costco so we had rotisserie chicken and leftover fennel risotto for dinner.

Day 1753: Lobster & Risotto

Christmas and Hanukkah! Where is Seth Cohen?

We had waffles with the sassafras hickory syrup we got at the Apple Butter Festival in October.

It was tasty! I love our waffle maker.

We exchanged presents and they were all great! No misses.

For dinner Matt made risotto with fennel, mascarpone and Prosecco and lobster tails. It was really good!

We had ordered a Milk Bar cake so that was already in the freezer. It was a peppermint bark one and really tasty! I don’t know if we had that one before.

I feel like the most successful holiday meals are ones where we can prep before and don’t have to make dessert. When my mom was alive we didn’t have to make full meals so this has been a learning curve! Now my dad is gone too we don’t have any local family so it’s just us

Day 1752: Crab Cakes

Christmas Eve! For lunch we had some frozen pizza from Lidl that Matt had impulse bought a few weeks ago. One was better than the other.

Matt did dash out and get dill, banana peppers and celery.

I made beet salad, mixed up the crab cakes, made shrimp pasta salad in the afternoon and Matt made salmon dill deviled eggs. I used two kinds of crab meat—lump and jumbo lump which I think gives you the best texture if you want to splurge! It makes a ton of crab cakes so we have a lot left.

So good!

Day 1751: Chaat

We ended up getting Thai food for lunch. They have a good lunch special, I got the pad Thai with tofu and curry puff. They even give you little pickled cucumber garnish.

I had the worst migraine Sunday night and then all day. I did manage to steam some shrimp and make hard-boiled eggs for tomorrow.

Then for dinner we were going to have hot dogs and salad but when we opened up the hot dogs they were sour smelling and bad. So gross. We didn’t have any food here that wasn’t frozen or for the holiday so we got Indian food. I had two kinds of chaat and Matt got some chicken and saag combo.
