Day 1533: Leftover Pizza

Today my dad was supposed done doing some test/a procedure and I had a migraine so I didn’t go in but then no one called me but the social worker wanting to know his goals?

We ended up getting sandwiches for lunch. I made a rug on my giant potholder loom because we had hauled the loom out in the yard but I didn’t feel well at all. I feel constantly on edge.

For dinner we just had the leftover pizza. On one hand I feel like should grocery shop but on the other we haven’t been feeling like making anything and when I have bought food I ended up freezing it.

Hopefully I will feel up to driving tomorrow and can go to the hospital. He was supposed to come home tomorrow so this is a big set back. And next week is our vacation week and who knows what will be going on?

Day 1532: Harissa Meatballs

Meals continue to be a mess. We have leftover Indian take out and pizza but I cannot be eating that much tomato based food four days in a row. Matt did see my dad and he seems okayish and they are doing some tests tomorrow. I have a migraine.

Anyway! Got Thai for lunch, I got Pad Thai with tofu and a curry puff and it came with a super tiny little pickled cucumber dip for the curry puff. I like going there for lunch because dinner is a little pricy and we never have leftovers. Lunch is a lot cheaper and still comes with an app or soup. Matt got black rice and soup. It’s a pretty big lunch portion!

Then I went and put some books in a Little Free Library (I have like five more bags in my car) and picked up some cold prepped meals at the market we tried last week.

I got the harissa meatballs and lemon couscous and Matt got blacked chicken and what they called dirty rice but was rice and black beans. We added spinach to both. Mine was pretty good but Matt didn’t love his as much as what he tried last week.

I tried to distract myself with this crochet pattern from a granny square course book and I cannot get it to look like she said and her thumb is in the video. A bit annoying since I bought the books because everyone loved them! It’s a course where you work your way through like 10 squares and I’m getting stuck on number one. I think it’s because she is a real perfectionist and starts them off so they are perfect vs the easier way I’ve seen in other patterns. Maybe I will go back to it later.

I feel like I should go grocery shopping but I keep buying food I end up freezing or tossing because we haven’t had time or energy to cook.

Day 1531: Samosa Chaat

For breakfast we ended up getting doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches. Mine was meatloaf and really good! I had my guild meeting so couldn’t have lunch because of the drive so it worked out well and was really filling.

They had lemon meringue doughnuts!

We put together the new grill and it doesn’t seem to be missing any pieces. Matt was going to the store to get something to grill but it took longer than expected.

While at my meeting, I got a call from the hospital that my dad is back in the ICU from being in the rehab. He was supposed to get out Wednesday so I don’t really know what’s going on. I ended up leaving a little early and coming home and we ended up getting take out.

The doctor did call with an update and they are trying to get to the bottom of things but the last hospital didn’t really think they had any new options?

Day 1530: Pizza

The day started off okay but then the dryer didn’t turn on so Matt ended up having to go to my dad‘s house to do laundry and set up where he is sleeping or might be sleeping when my dad gets out of out of rehab next week.

For lunch, we got sushi and then for dinner we ended up getting pizza because we did not get to put together the new grill or go to the store. That is tomorrow’s goal. I have my meeting tomorrow, so busy day. At least it was rainy today so we really couldn’t have gotten much done. There were some festivals, but I don’t think they would’ve been very nice. I am disappointed about wasting a day when dad is safe in the hospital though.

Day 1529: Sopes

For lunch I had soup and Matt went down to my dad’s house to wait for a bed delivery and got himself some pit turkey.

For dinner we ended up getting some take out, the idea was to grill but he got back too late for that.

This is a rough time for getting anything done!

Day 1527: Pulled Pork

Tried to get work done because who knows what it will be like when my dad leaves rehab. He called right before bedtime and said they were asking if he had anyone to spend the night with him when he gets back for a few days. He doesn’t have any place for anyone to sleep and I keep telling them that. And that if someone does need to sleep there, we need to order furniture and have it delivered. No one called me about this or updated me at all. No one seems to talk to each other, no matter how many people I tell the same thing to like when they told me he was supposed to come home on the 21st and I had told three nurses and two doctors we had a gap with the dog sitter and couldn’t pick him up or have a place for him to sleep before the 22nd because they told us he would be there 14 days.

It is so bizarre to me that they expect us to live super close (or with) my dad, be available 24/7 and are really puzzled by things like dog care and not having a guest room or wanting to know basic things like when will he be released and will he need new prescriptions filled. Don’t they talk to people all the time? Are they not people themselves? Can they take off work at the drop of a hat day after day for a month and do full time elder care?

Anyway, soup for lunch then we had the pulled pork we got at Jake’s, broccoli and leftover mac and cheese.

I had a Harris Teeter delivery today, they are always so nice! I didn’t get much because I have no idea what is going on at any minute. L

Day 1526: Salisbury Steak

Matt got back from NYC and we ended up getting pit turkey from Jake’s and some pulled pork for another day.

Then for dinner we tried out this place that sells cold prepped meals to go. Matt tried the beef stew and biscuit and I got the Salisbury steak with mash and green beans. We’ve been looking for something that sells like real, complete meals for take out and this might fill in that gap. We picked up two others to try another day. Back when we dined in restaurants we’d get full meals out but our take out options are a little more heavy and lower on veggies. We have been through the wringer lately and I keep buying food we don’t end up making or at least not right away and still needing dinner. This is more like what we’d make ourselves if we had time.

It’s a little ugly because we don’t have a microwave and I had to put it in a baking dish but it was tasty.

Talked to the PT at my dad’s rehab and they are working for him to be able to get around alone at home next week. Fingers crossed!

Day 1524: Nachos

Started off the day visiting my dad at the rehab. They don’t seem to think he needs too much time there but I really think they need to keep him until after that gap in the dog sitting.

I was going to pick up lunch on my way home but there was a sudden violent storm so I just had the leftover knockwurst scrambled with an egg and finished off the leftover garlic knots

For dinner I made nachos with the leftover turkey.
