Day 1451: Trout

The fancy cupcake bakery had a Leap Day special with some flavors they had discontinued so I drove out there (about 30 minutes) to picked some up. On my way back I got a sub and fries for lunch. I have been craving fries so much! I didn’t finish them but it hit the spot.

I got a massive migraine after lunch and took to the dark bedroom.

Matt made us dinner: trout, zucchini and wild rice.

My cupcake was really good: ice cream cone.

I was looking forward to Elspeth today but it’s apparently actually airing on CBS tonight. I had thought it was a Paramount Plus show! I swear that’s what it said when it was announced like year or more ago but maybe not.

Day 1450: Khoresh Bademjan

We had an eye appointment in the morning. We always book together so Matt can drive me home after my eyes are super dilated.

We got back and found an enormous box of bread and dry ice waiting for us. I had been told they’d send me coupons and instead we got bread. Luckily it was frozen but what a surprise! We gave some to our neighbor.

We made turkey sandwiches for lunch and had some of those giant grapes.

For dinner we were a little out of it from the eye doctor and got some food from a place we haven’t been to before. It was okay! The feta appetizer was a little salty and the entree portions uneven but everything was cooked well. I’d try it again though. The rice was tasty! My meal had those pickled sour grapes which are always tasty.

Day 1449: Meatloaf, part deux

Did a lot of vintage recipe work today! You never know what books are going to be good. I have some that look fun and then you open them up, it’s all “microwave cookery” and cake mix inside.

Some are amusing though.

For lunch I had snacks like popcorn and cucumbers with hummus, peanuts and marshmallows.

Dinner was leftover meatloaf, potatoes and steamed broccoli.

Day 1448: Hots and Tots

I placed a pick up order at Target for Easter stuff and it was ready at like 10 pm last night so I got it this morning. I hate how they have pick up only sale pricing. I can shop for myself! I also did a little free library drop off, dropped off some things to donate at Savers, finally got horseradish at Weis and did a small meat-centric Aldi shop.

For lunch I had some instant jjajangmyeon. I tried to get something different and easy at Aldi but the store was really empty except for raw meat and produce. I did get these giant grapes called Autumn Crisp which were expensive and have a thick skin that makes an audible noise when you bite into it. Matt’s back on noodles and cottage cheese (tentative) so he had that.

I ran out of yarn with my second Sophie scarf which was unexpected since I had more than the pattern called for. I went to unwind it and knit the smaller size instead and it got super tangled so I just tossed it. At least the yarn was free but it was a fun milk-soy yarn and I was almost finished.

For dinner we had hot dogs, steamed broccoli, baked beans, and generic tater tots.

Matt had his piano lesson and I started another scarf with yarn I know I have a ton of (also free from a guild member) that I can’t find any info about online.

Day 1447: Meatloaf

This morning we went to the conservatory. The palm is growing through the roof and the orchid room smelt of prosciutto or that Westphalian ham we used to get the German deli before it closed. Like floral, salty meat.

Then I got fancy fries and Matt got something from the kabob place nearby but my fries were done right away and his food took forever so I didn’t eat much of mine. Nothing worse than soggy fries you can’t really reheat.

Matt made cheeseburger inspired meatloaf and these lemon smashed potatoes. Then we had the rest of the pineapple, for health. Lots of leftovers.

Since we are doing Easter at home this teat I placed an order for pick up at Target for tomorrow for Easter candy. Jelly Belly has some fun flavors this year!

Day 1446: Sushi

Out and about a bit this morning and then came home and made sandwiches. Last night was rough! I didn’t fall asleep until around 3 then got up at 3:30 to go to the bathroom and didn’t fall back asleep until around 6:30 so took a short nap in the afternoon. I don’t know why I’m having so much trouble sleeping this week. I’m not stressed, I feel fine. Hopefully it will be better tonight.

Ended up getting sushi from sushi “hibachi” place we tried last week. Matt got cooked food that was pretty good. It’s nice to have a new choice in the neighborhood.

Day 1445: Cod Pasta

I got a lot of knitting done today and some writing but not much beyond that. I went to the post office to mail out a thank you note and on my way saw a stay dog. Black, sort of terrier looking. I tried to grab them but they ran over to a yard with a dog in it. I don’t think that is their house though. I was only gone a few minutes and they were gone when I got back. I posted it to our neighborhood Facebook group right a way so I hope someone found him.

For lunch we made turkey-capicola-provolone sandwiches. Matt prefers the domestic provolone and that makes me sad but it’s okay with turkey. He also got some bread and basil for dinner.

Then for dinner we made cod pasta with the cod we had defrosted, fresh basil and canned tomatoes. It was pretty good! Cod is an affordable fish and I like it but it really needs some work to be tasty. We also made garlic bread. Matt had picked up this garlic butter at the Italian store around Valentine’s Day thinking it was like a compound butter to spread on bread but it was really solid and we realized it was for making your own garlic bread so we’ve been hanging on to it. It was pretty good! Still hard to spread but it made for easy “homemade” garlic bread.

We watched the beginning of season two of Vigil and the latest Death in Paradise and Hayley Mills was in it! I can always recognize her no matter how old she gets.

Day 1444: Lasagna

Today was unexpectedly busy! I had a FedEx package to return at Walgreens. That went really well! Last time I had to take to an an actual FedEx Depot and I’m not sure if this was closer but it was a little quicker. Then I returned two items at Staples and that went really well.

I was on a roll so I drove even further into the suburbs and went to a fancy yarn store to get some supplies for my new knit along and it was hopping! My yarn arrived already (shipped out from Denton, and!) so I want to be ready. The store is no where near us but where I was returning things was in that general direction.

When I left the yarn store I couldn’t get back on the highway because of a giant truck blocking my exit so I drove the opposite way to turn around and saw a Lidl so I dashed in there. It was a little weird, it was a bigger store than the one near me but the same amount of items and fixtures. Anyway! They had frozen catfish fillets which I had seen in the Aldi ad for this week so I got that and some other odds and ends to hopefully hold us well into next week and I can just skip Aldi.

I got some frozen breaded shrimp to try for lunch and it was okay. I like the Aldi one better.

Matt got home late and it was thundering and lightening so we got lasagna. He had defrosted cod but I think that will be okay tomorrow. Honestly, I got a migraine at like 3:30 am and didn’t sleep well so I was kind of at my limit. I did some writing and then napped in the afternoon after the errands.

Day 1443: Pot Roast

Yesterday I got so much done but today was a little more low key.

For lunch we had leftover mochiko chicken and mi goreng (the triumphant return, I ordered a case) and the chicken reheated well in the oven.

I started another scarf in some yarn made from milk and soy from a guild member. I’m making this one larger.

For dinner we had more noodles—pot roast over macaroni.

I ordered two pairs of shoes, neither fit and now I have to pay to send them back via FedEx which is super annoying. They didn’t send them via FedEx.

Day 1442: Leftovers

I was super productive today and did a lot of cleaning and reorganizing and finished my scarf and audiobook. Matt went back to work and the dogs were exhausted by their massive walk yesterday (Mitzi’s paw is a little sore so we are keeping an eye on that) so nothing was stopping me!

I signed up for a knit along for March. It was kind of pricey but I wanted the exact yarns so I didn’t have to make any adjustments to the pattern. It’s supposed to be very step by step and there is a Facebook group and everything so hopefully it will be fun. I had tried a much cheaper one by a different company back in June and they didn’t actually do all of the support and videos they said as it went on but this is clearly all filmed up front.

Lunch was a bunch of random bits like popcorn and a couple of dumplings and then dinner was leftover Indian take out. It reheated really well!
