Day 1310: Chocolate Chip Cookie

I went to the cider mill this morning for apples. The ones I wanted were listed as in stock and available to pick at their affiliated farm but they didn’t actually have them! My favorite stand closed this year so I’m not sure where to source them now. The cider mill is really out of the way and doesn’t answer the phone so I don’t want to keep trying there day after day. There is another pick your own farm that normally has them but hasn’t yet about an hour way. We might be near there at the end of the month and can try then? That’s really far to go just for apples.

That was a bust but I was able to donate a big bag of yarn and punch needle thread I am not going to use to a nearby Savers.

Then I impulse drove from the county down to another part of the city and got some half gallon mason jars for the new cold brew system I want to try. I’ve tried some pitchers but they keep getting warped or leaking even though we hand wash them (we don’t even have a dishwasher) and don’t handle them a lot. At least a jar is easy to replace and a six pack was on sale for $13 with a coupon from Ace Hardware,

For lunch I made myself a mini batch of nachos with my favorite salsa and refried beans.

For dinner Matt made salad, steaks and baked potatoes. I had a cookie for dessert.

I don’t want to but I think I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow. All we have is a whole chicken and the shredded vegetables Matt bought at Lidl. We are out of some real basics and I didn’t do a big shop before we were off last week and we didn’t shop that week at all.

Day 1309: Green Beans

Today I dyed yarn I spun with marigolds I grew in our yard. I also wrote about writing my latest cookbook collaboration that’s out now.

For lunch I made a sandwich out of the leftover schnitzel. Matt went into work and tried a new deli but the sandwich was kind of small.

Dottie started some seizure medicine. She was very excited to take the pill! I hope it works for her.

For dinner Matt made turkey breast with green beans and shiitake mushroom over rice. It was pretty tasty.

New season of Meurtres à… on MHz today!

Tomorrow I might try again get my favorite apples. My favorite stand closed and they are only available a few weeks a year so I need to find a new source.

Day 1308: Sandwich

Dottie went to the vet and they do think it’s epilepsy which is better than the alternatives which are largely worse!

I had a chicken sandwich with our Costco chicken leftover and lingonberry jam and chips for lunch. Matt didn’t feel great so he added more chicken to canned chicken soup.

He did a tiny Lidl run to get us through the next few days. I like Lidl but unless they have a sale on meat or fish we like that they don’t normally carry they often don’t have a lot of proteins there we like or in stock.

Anyway, for dinner I was going to have some ravioli I found in the freezer but it was freezer burnt so I pivoted to some sausage and hominy and popcorn. Very few choices! Matt had rice and eggs. I would have gotten take out but nothing is open near us early in the week except the Italian place and I over did it on tomatoes yesterday.

Day 1307: “Schnitzel”

Today we were supposed to go to West Virginia but our beagle had a seizure so we didn’t want leave her alone. She has a vet appointment tomorrow so hopefully we can get her some help!

Instead we tried to go to a cider mill to pick up my favorite apples but that was a huge mess so we kept driving and ended up getting lunch from a new to us pit beef place. Matt liked his turkey sandwich but my beef was cold and didn’t seem smoked. The potato salad had basically raw potatoes in it.

For dinner Matt made us a tomato salad, “schnitzel” and mashed potatoes. Not cute but tasty.

I had a migraine and we watched a French mystery.

Day 1306: French Toast

We were supposed to do a day trip to PA but it rained most of the day and the festival was mostly outside so we didn’t go. I wish these things were closer but it was almost 2 hrs away so by the time the rain stopped it was really too late to go.

Instead we did some more cleaning and organizing. It was so boring! We did move the bedroom tv we don’t watch downstairs since it’s bigger. Our old tv had a built in DVD player which was nice but with Netflix DVD folding, we don’t watch as many DVDs.

I don’t normally eat breakfast or French toast but we had leftover pulla bread so I did. The slices were small but worked!

For lunch we got sushi from the place with the good lunch combos.

I went to get gas and weirdly the stations near us were closed? People were there but not actually getting gas. It was so strange.

For dinner I had our Chinese food leftovers and Matt had some leftover chicken and rice.

Day 1305: Pancit

Today was a little rough! Matt spent it at my dad’s doing our laundry and I spent it here reorganizing the house and stocking the new bookcases.

He got a breakfast sandwich and some tacos while he was out and I had leftover lo mein.

For dinner we got pancit and lumpia.

I’m exhausted. Hauling stuff up and down the steps is no joke.

At least we were off and could take care of it. Not as fun as a day trip though!

Day 1304: Pretzel Roll Sandwich

We drove up to Chesapeake City and got lunch and pulla bread at a coffee shop on the way. We had lunch where the canal used to be and then toured the canal museum which was decorated Halloween but unstaffed. We walked around the town a little.

Then we shopped at our favorite fiber arts store that is closing and Matt got some men’s knitting books and yarn and I got some spinning stuff and a weird hairpin lace loom. It’s not closing until December so we might be back.

Then we went to Costco and got some odds and ends and a chicken and a Caesar salad for dinner.

It was a longer day than expected! The people at the shop were chatty (including the customer) and it is like an hour away.

I guess we got a later start than usual too because we were debating between shopping and the park.

The worst part was we tried to do laundry when we got home and the dryer isn’t working. Luckily Matt’s off tomorrow and he’s going to go to my dad’s in the morning and do it, we were so behind because we’ve been busy.

Day 1302: Eggplant with String Bean

I drove down to Scaggsville to pick up a yarn tree and Matt prepped our only wooden window to paint. Then he got us Jersey Mike’s which is pretty new here. He had never had it and I’ve only had it once when on a solo trip.

The plan was to make dinner but we napped instead and got takeout from the Szechuan place for dinner. We got all our faves. I have been missing that eggplant and the bean curd/pork/celery one that they messed up on our last order.

Day 1301: Chicken

We went to IKEA and got some new bookcases for game and books. We got lunch at Naz’s Halal Food. They do not skip on sauces.

Matt put together the book cases and it took forever so we ended up getting Chinese take out for dinner. I had lo mein which I haven’t had for a long time.

It is our vacation week so I don’t feel bad getting take out. We planned some days to catch up on house stuff and some day trips. Today was supposed to be a day trip but we realized the center of the trip was actually closed (before we left, thankfully) so we pivoted to one of our home day plans. I hate how places don’t update social media and their websites and Google isn’t always accurate either.

Tomorrow was supposed to be our first stay at home day because I am picking up an item from a seller on Facebook marketplace so I’m a little sad to have two of these days back to back.
