Day 1289: Leftovers x 2

I went to different Aldi today because I really wanted the cast iron bread baker that went on sale today. It is bigger than my usual store so I thought it might be more likely to be in stock. You never know what is going to be popular and at $25 vs the nearly identical Le Creuset version at $240-300 I thought it might be. The location is a little weird, the store is very large but not very filled? They had plenty so I was even able to get it in blue vs white. Anyway good to keep in mind for future sales.

For lunch I had leftover tuna over sliced tomatoes and some popcorn. Matt was at work so he got the halal cart chicken.

For dinner we had leftover pizza.

I only have 3 more squares and my lap blanket will be done! Trying to power through.

Day 1288: Pattypan Squash

Lots of work today!

Made tuna for our lunch. I also made a lemon onion salad from a community cookbook that needed to marinated for 8 hrs.

I spun and listened to an audiobook—the Vera Stanhope series. Good but so fatphobic. Is everyone in England like this?? They focus on weight so much.

For dinner we had steak, wild rice pilaf, pattypan squash and the lemon onion salad.

So good! And I have a ton of the vegetables leftover for another dinner.

Watched some more Astrid et Raphaëlle.

Day 1286: Sushi

Today was sort of an odd day. The goal was the beach but it was really cloudy so we went to a waterfront park for a walk instead.

It started to rain really hard after we walked a couple miles so I ended up running into a supermarket to get some groceries we needed while Matt ran back and got the car.

Then we picked up tasty (expensive! this is what happens when I let him pick) sushi for lunch. I had yellowtail, toro and a octopus-avocado roll. It is good to try a new place though! We aren’t often in that part of Baltimore but we love sushi and it’s only about 20 minutes from home.

Cupcake snack!

Matt made fig jam with fresh ginger. While he was doing that I got a Craigslist alert for “loom” and someone in our neighborhood was giving away a loom! For free! It was listed as porch pick up and as a table loom but to me it looked like a table loom and a stand. I watched the jam and Matt went to check it out and it was still there. I was right, it is a table loom and a stand! I think I might use it on our actual table and store the stand. It is wider and has more harnesses than the floor looms I have. It looks like it’s in good shape. Maybe an older model because some parts like knobs are wood and the ones I see now are plastic.

After all that we ended up getting pizza for dinner. We have really been splashing out for meals this weekend! I had steaks planned but time got away from us and the kitchen was all jammy. And I had to clean that loom.

Matt did prep/marinate the lamb I bought so we can have that tomorrow.

We started watching Astrid et Raphaëlle on PBS and it’s pretty cute. We’ve seen the actress who plays Astrid a lot.

Day 1285: Crabs & Cupcakes

Today was a gorgeous day! It was spin in public day so I met up with the guild at a park and we spun some yarn! A good number came out.

I had brought a muffin with me but it’s hard to eat and spin. We got steamed crabs for lunch and I picked up some cupcakes. Both places are like halfway between our house and the park so it was a perfect excuse.

Great day to eat outside.

Then I got some fried oysters for dinner—Matt got flounder.

Day 1284: Muffins

I really didn’t feel well today but had a lot to get done!

I made cucumber lox egg salad for our lunch. Then I made giant blueberry muffins for a snack and to take tomorrow in case I get hungry at my meet up. It was the first time using these pans and they came out really well!

I finished some spinning some plain yarn to dye then I made some batts to spin tomorrow.

For dinner Matt made turkey tenderloin and jazzed up the leftover couscous with spinach and saffron.

Day 1283: Burgers

This morning I went to the library to get a cookbook that was in for me and then went to Lidl.

I didn’t do a huge shop but it was still like $90. I did get some Greek cheese (it’s Greek week but they were out of orzo) and a couple of nougats with wafers on the side but besides that it was spinach, Brussels sprouts, eggs, milk, steak, lamb cubes and turkey tenderloin.

We had our Iranian takeout leftovers for lunch.

I wanted to go outside and practice spinning for the spin in public day on Saturday I’m hosting right after lunch but the neighbor was cutting my next door neighbor’s lawn. It took an hour plus then I waited another hour to make sure he was done. I went out and five minutes in he started mowing again. Obviously you can do whatever you want but it’s the middle of the work day! Why does he spend all morning/early afternoon doing something and then take a huge break and do it again? It was the same thing he did on my birthday. Is he bugging my house? Is he mad at us and running out when he sees us doing something in the yard? It is it an endless coincidence? This is Ike the fifth time it’s happened this summer. If it’s not mowing it’s like wood chipping. The lawn wasn’t even long.

Anyway, I got some spinning done and noticed the hydrangea is basically drying on the bush.

It has been hot with no rain (until the last couple days) so I guess that is what happens?

For dinner we made rice and I made squash with mushrooms and we were supposed to have these frozen shrimp but they cooked up really gross. Matt ended up getting us burgers at the local hot dog hut and we had the veggies with that and saved the rice. I feel like I can’t win! At least the shrimp is out of the freezer?

Day 1281: Couscous

Another chicken sandwich for lunch. Got some work done but next thing I knew it was time for dinner. I made the raw seasoned ground beef we froze into patties and made jalapeño-corn couscous to go with. Not bad! I always forget how quick couscous is to make.

And a cookie for dessert.

The new Covid booster got cdc approval for everyone so that’s good! I’m going to wait to schedule it until it seems like it’s actually in pharmacies.

Day 1280: Scallops

This morning I went to the post office to send off my dad’s bills and since the streets looked empty, drove to the suburbs and went to Trader Joe’s.

I have no interest in pumpkin anything but I did some the elote seasoning I like for my popcorn and was almost out of, delicata squash which I never seem to see in other stores, spinach, harissa, the knock off Goddess dressing I like in tuna and and some herbs d’province.

For lunch we had chicken sandwiches then for dinner I sautéed jumbo scallops, spinach and mushrooms and served it over mushroom ravioli.

After dinner we made some chocolate toffee chip cookies for dessert. Matt was a little overzealous in flattening them out but they were good!
