Day 1249: Steelhead Trout & Pizza

Grocery shopping day! I went to Weis to get buttermilk, pimentos and dill relish then did the rest of my shopping at Aldi.

I got a pepperoni take and bake pizza for lunch. It wasn’t bad! I added some olives and seasoning. Easier and cheaper than other options.

They had sherbet flavored hummus and that was appalling.

We are on “staycation” starting tomorrow and have some day trips planned so I didn’t do a huge shop but got basics and some food with good dates like trout, steak and frozen fish. I honestly don’t feel like cooking at all but unless we are actually out or drive pretty far away, our take out options are abysmal. There are some new places opening up nearby soon so fingers crossed they are good!

We had trout, rice pilaf and broccoli for dinner. I bought extra trout so we could have more to make salad with for lunch one day.

We watched Thief and it wasn’t bad but the sound was awful. It was a Criterion DVD but the wielding was so loud and the dialogue was whispers.

Day 1248: Crispy Chicken

Matt got us sandwiches for lunch today, I got a club and he got a meatball sub. I had planned to go to the library and the grocery store today but the library was closed due to storm damage, I didn’t feel well and it was raining. I took it as a sign.

We are off next week for vacation and are planning some day trips. Fingers crossed the weather is good and things are open!

I’ll have to go to the store tomorrow because I don’t want to spend our week off grocery shopping! But we need to have something to have as at least back up meals if it rains. Our local take out options are so bad!

For dinner I continued to clear out the freezer and had some red bag chicken over rice with the leftover squash and mushrooms. I was going to make a potato dish from an old cookbook but I really didn’t have the energy. I wish we had tonkatsu sauce but it was a last minute idea.

It’s awful looking at Maui. So much history gone forever. Maybe people will finally stop vacationing there as they’ve been asking for years. I hope rebuilding efforts focus on the people who are actually there year round.

Day 1247: BLTs

We didn’t have a lot here for lunch and I had an awful migraine so I ended up making myself some nachos with refried beans, cheddar, habanero salsa and red onions. True pantry cooking!

Then for dinner we had BLTs. The tomatoes are finally pretty good! And we had the rest of the corn on the cob.

Day 1246: Rice Bowls

For lunch I had the rest of the leftover takeout. Matt went to the halal chicken place near his work.

I processed a bunch of old flat sheets to weave with. It was nice to be outside in the good weather but that was a workout!

For dinner Matt sautéed up some squash and mushrooms and we had the last of the shredded smoked beef over rice.

For dessert we had some of the marshmallow-chocolate bars on some Graham crackers.

Finished up Lambs of God on Plex. What a ride. I wish the book was available here.

Day 1245: Beef

We had leftover take out for lunch because we were planning to have cod tonight for dinner and we had a lot of beef leftovers.

I harvested some peppers for dinner. The other plant looks really perky!

Then I went to make the cod and both packages were spoiled. Why does this keep happening? I know it is not our refrigerator because the temperature is fine as is everything else in the fridge.

We ended up having the beef leftovers on rolls and some really good corn on the cob but I wish I had saved the Szechuan food instead of having it for lunch. We still have a little more of the takeout left but not enough for both of us. We have a lot of smoked pot roast left but I’m going to freeze some—we can’t eat beef day after day!

Matt made a chocolate peanut butter coconut marshmallow no bake dessert from an old cookbook for dessert.

There were a lot of storm warnings but we just got rain here. It wasn’t even too windy! We were really prepared to lose power.

We watched more of Lambs of God which has a lot of fiber arts content! And is very weird.

Day 1243: Cookies

Today we spent the day in Chesapeake City on the Eastern Shore. We got turkey subs and cookies and watched the boats go by.

I dropped off some books I wrote at the museum. They were so excited!

We went to Vulcan’s Rest Fiber and I got some bobbins for my spinning wheel on sale and a half priced knitting book. Matt wanted yarn for a project but they didn’t have anything he liked.

Then we were going to grill meat but it was bad! We pivoted to getting Szechuan food from way out in the suburbs which wasn’t too far from where we had to return some items to Lands End— the extra large tote is MASSIVE! That had been our plan for tomorrow (at least the return) so now tomorrow is free except maybe returning $30 worth of roast. We have had the worst luck with meat lately. It doesn’t matter where we get it.

Day 1241: Corned Beef on Rye

Today I went to the farm store and Costco. Why is that always so exhausting?? Part of it is that it is at least 30 minutes away so it takes up a good chunk of the day. Also I feel like I’m always doing so much mental math there—is this really a good deal? Can we eat this much of anything?

I spent a fortune but it was mostly on OTC medications that were on sale.

Matt got us club sandwiches for lunch. I was going to get sandwiches at Costco but they didn’t have the one that comes with a salad that we normally split so we had to pivot.

I had defrosted a corned beef so I put that in the slow cooker before I left. We made sandwiches with it on rye from the farm store with leftover potato salad and cauliflower salad. I really like to plan something super easy for Costco days! I had hoped we’d have some corned beef leftover but it really cooked down.

We watched Dave Built a Maze. It was weird the names of the people who built all that wasn’t in Wikipedia. Surely it wasn’t the director or producers creating it.
