Dreary dreary day. Glad we got out yesterday and it was so successful. We made soba with cabbage, cabbage, tofu and peanut sauce for lunch. Normally I’d use sesame paste but we were out of it. Peanut was a good sub though! We have some of the tofu and veggies left.
Read some and did some cleaning. Caught up on the last two episodes of Perry Mason. So good!
For dinner we split a steak and roasted potatoes and yellow squash.
It was a very ugly and yellow dinner! But very tasty and easy.
We planned to go to a festival down in PG County but it’s been raining for days and misting this morning and I could not get confirmation it was actually going to happen.
Matt had the idea to pivot to Chesapeake City and see if they had a history museum that might have a community cookbook for the grant project. It turned out they do have one so headed up! It’s about an hour away but an easy drive.
The museum was very cute with a friendly staff who was very excited about the project. I will have to send them a copy of the bookZ We got sandwiches at a little coffee shop with a view of the canal.
Matt walked the dogs since it wasn’t raining and we got food from Killa Dogz for dinner. I had the struggle dog and Matt had a burger. Tomorrow we will have more vegetables!
It was an unexpectedly nice day! It was very gray but didn’t actually rain and Chesapeake City is very charming.
I don’t really know where today went. I did get some knitting done, some back and forth about the book and had a migraine but it’s a blur.
For lunch we had leftover pizza. Never getting that again!
I didn’t feel well and we only had heavier foods to make here so Matt picked up some sushi from the place with the good California (salad-style) rolls but just okay other sushi and the yellowtail was a little fishy. I think we are going to take a break from there too.
Too much take out this week and it hasn’t been good! I wish we had better options. There are some places we like further in the city but they are horrible to get to and park then it’s hard to get the food back in time.
I made some popcorn with my signature seasonings.
I think the weather didn’t help at all. It’s so chilly and dreary! It’s hard to get the urge to do anything. We were supposed to go to a festival tomorrow but I’m sure it will be canceled.
Spent the day practicing spinning and working on my weaving. Read a book. I’m so glad to be done with recipe development for the book. I’ve been doing historic recipes for the last six months and it was such an energy suck. It also made it really difficult to think of other food to make and have the energy to make them.
We ended up getting sandwiches from the Italian market for lunch.
For dinner we made pasta with ‘nduja (from Lidl, surprisingly spicy!), lemons, leeks and spinach. It was really good.
I had a zoom meeting and talk with John Marshall about Japanese indigo dyeing. I love how zoom meetings have become the norm and we can have talks from creators all over the world!
We watched a little Schmigadoon! and worked on our knitting project.
Long day of warping the loom and trying to get things done! Leftovers for my lunch (Matt went to the halal place near work) . Matt mowed most of the yard when he got home and I was going to make pasta for dinner but was at zero.
Got pizza and salad at the place we get sandwiches and pasta from. We had never had their pizza before and it was okay. Too many toppings! The white pie was a little simpler/better but Matt’s picky and I think we will stick to Desantis/Matthew’s in the future.
Finished Peggy Orenstein’s book about knitting. Eh.
I wasn’t planning on grocery shopping but 2/3 of the girls were sleeping in their crates so I took advantage of the situation, locked them up and dashed to Lidl. I got a few things (we were totally out of eggs) so we will see if I need to do a bigger shop later in the week. I hope not!
I had leftover Chinese takeout for lunch as planned, Matt went into work and had bibimbap.
I waxed my new spinning wheel part and did a cyantype on a weaving. Went back and forth about the book.
Tried to do a little spinning but kept getting interrupted and had to help my dad with something over the phone which took forever.
For dinner we had two days’ worth of leftover potatoes and some leftover yellow squash and made fresh lamb kofta. Easy-peasy!
The figs are growing! We get figs twice a year from this tree but we pruned it last year so I wasn’t sure how it would be. It’s oddly cold so I hope they are okay. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get another frost.
I slept late and immediately made a chiffon cake. I love cakes that don’t require room temperature ingredients.
It was so good! The texture was perfect. Now all the recipes for book are finished!
I realized we had nothing for lunch. Matt heated up some taco leftovers with the last of the eggs and I made myself popcorn. Cake snack!
I wrote up some essays for the book. I cannot wait for this to be over!
For dinner we got Chinese takeout and a extra dish so I don’t have to worry about lunch tomorrow. We have some ground lamb and leftover sides but I think we will have that tomorrow.
Did some weaving while we watched the premiere of Dalgliesh. I’m not sure if it is going to be my project for the guild this year or just a practice piece. I need to figure it out because it has to be done in a month!
This morning I got up early and made snippy noodle cake (noodle free!) for both the book and as a snack for my guild meeting.
For lunch I made egg salad and we had it on milk bread. Guild meeting days are always a little odd food-wise. Normally we don’t have food at the meetings and I don’t like to eat too close to making the drive. But then I don’t get home until dinner time and I’m really hungry!
The meeting was fun, we had a guest speaker and demo which is why another member asked if I wanted to bring anything. They all know I’m trying to test all these recipes and need eaters! The talk was interesting.
Everyone liked the cakes! I’m glad I made two different ones. It was interesting because some people had a very clear preference for one over the other. No leftovers of the loaf cake! I only had a tiny crumb and Matt didn’t get any. The snippy noodle cake was a 9×13 I cut into tiny squares and there were a few left but not much.
I texted Matt when I left so he started dinner—roasted potatoes and yellow squash and bison burgers—so it would be ready when I came in.
We watched Katla on Netflix and I worked on a weaving that might work for my guild project due next meeting.
We got up super early and went to Frederick FiberFest about an hour away. We bought some yarn and fiber.
Our plan had been to get the festival then get lunch and go to the historical society for my grant project but it was so windy we ended up leaving and going home. It was like a dust storm! It literally blew out one of my contacts. Luckily it landed on my cheek and I was able to put it back in. It was disappointing to leave but no way we could eat outside in that and it looked like it might rain earlier than predicted. I felt like Dorothy in Kansas.
We stopped and got kimbap and donkatsu on the way home. We also got some milk bread at the bakery for tomorrow.
I did some reading and Matt practiced the piano.
For dinner I had picked up a taco kit at Costco, assuming we’d be gone all day and even though we were home earlier than planned, I’m glad I did. It’s been an exhausting week.
After dinner, I made a cake for my weaving guild meeting tomorrow that will also be in the book!
I had to go to Costco this morning to get Matt’s birthday present I had ordered and delivered there so we wouldn’t have to be home. I was not in a Costco mood but likely it wasn’t too crowded!
I got lemons for a recipe for the book, an bunch of chips/pretzels/popcorn (we don’t really need any but good expiration dates and the prices at the regular store are bonkers lately), vitamins, the chicken taco kit for tomorrow because are going out of town for the day, and the sandwiches with a salad for our lunch.
I haven’t seen those sandwiches for sale for months! They are almost too big for lunch and I was tempted to get one and split it but Matt reminded haven’t had much in the way of regular meals the last couple days and am still fighting my migraine. I wish they came with a different salad though. I cannot finish all that romaine!
I got some work done then laid in bed quietly for an half hour. I really don’t want to have to take my migraine meds four days in a row! It is nice weather out and I feel like I wasted the day not being outside.
Hopefully tomorrow will be fun, our plan is to go to a festival in a different city but it’s supposed to rain. I think we are going to try to get there super early and hopefully be able to see what we want and then get lunch there before it rains.
I also want to hit up the historical society there. I had contacted them a couple weeks ago about my recipe research and they never responded. Maybe if I just show up someone will talk to me? Why is everything so tedious? It’s a cute city but I normally have no reason to go there so bundling a visit with the festival made sense. It’s a little far to go just on the hope they might have something.
For dinner Matt made us steaks, smashed potatoes and mushrooms with escarole. I bought the escarole like two weeks ago! How was it still good? But it was.
